Low Price Canon imageCLASS MF4370DN Laser All-in-One Printer

Just thought I'd post a review since nobody has mentioned a subtlety to networking that can be frustrating...

It set up at first fine: I just plugged it into the wireless router, and the setup software took care of it. Bingo, the thing works awesome. Then we just happened to have a power outage a couple of weeks later (but the same thing happens when you turn the big power switch on the side of the machine off), and suddenly nothing would print! Print jobs just stacked up on my computer without errors telling me why they weren't printing.

Turns out this thing gets its IP Address automatically from the router each time it powers on. DHCP or something like that. The problem is that if it gets a *new* IP address one time, i.e. one that's different from the last time it powered on, your computer won't be able to find it! Ironic, I think, that the printer goes asking for a new IP address each time, but the drivers on the computer aren't smart enough to find it and ask it what its new address is. (I'm not a tech wizard obviously, but maybe this whole "ask for a new IP address each time" thing isn't the right way to go in certain situations.)

Turns out it's not a big deal to give it a static IP address (i.e. one that doesn't change so the computer can always find it). You WILL have to call support because this is NOT mentioned in the manual, but as has been stated the support people are awesome and they walked me through it in about twenty minutes, as well as installing it on my wife's computer to make sure it worked on that too.

As far as features, the duplex printing really does work. I too noticed that the text is a tiny bit crooked on the page, which is really only noticeable if you printed duplex, because you'll notice that the side margins on the front and back (if the page is back-lit) cross each other down the length of the paper.

Still 5 stars because this feature set is awesome for the price, and everything seems to work as advertised.Get more detail about Canon imageCLASS MF4370DN Laser All-in-One Printer.
