I love this scanner. The hardware would easily get 6 stars.
The software, unfortunately as with many scanner and printer products, is not so Mac like. I would really love to be able to use this directly from within Apple's Image Capture or Preview apps in Snow Leopard instead, but that's not possible.
The supplied software feels like out of the nineties. It works, but it is ugly and managing profiles and other things is awkward and un-Mac-like. You click on the Dock icon to switch profiles, and I hate it how the I can't hit Cmd-Q to quit the program after clicking its icon. I do not leave the software running in the background constantly, I start it on demand and then quit it again. Every time I try to quit and it doesn't work because the profile selector is up, it's a little Arghhh! for me.
I also don't like how the little strange profile selection window doesn't go away again when I click the dock icon a second time, and I especially don't like that I can't move it around.
For OCR I use Acrobat Pro which I already had. Its recognition quality is good, but using this combination is nowhere near a streamlined workflow. OCR in Acrobat is cumbersome (required custom AppleScript to even get a keyboard shortcut) and I often need to switch between German and English dictionaries, and that is a pain. So this product would be way, way better if it came with a good multilingual OCR recognition software.Get more detail about Fujitsu ScanSnap S300 Color Mobile Scanner.
