My general theory on printers is "They don't work," and the Lexmark X4650 lives up to that expectation.
I have succeeded in printing exactly one item wirelessly, the day after I tried to print it initially. I don't know what happened. It just popped out (and burned up a sheet of photo paper in the process. You owe me, Lexmark.).
The included software is garbage and does not function in Mac OS 10.6. Yes, I downloaded the most recent software upgrade from the Lexmark site dated mid-September. The software quits unexpectedly, rendering the wireless functionality useless.
I have scanned one item "wirelessly". By "wirelessly", I mean the printer was in one room, the computer was in the other room and I used my feet to walk the file on a USB drive, which the X4650 will scan directly onto.
If you are going to use this machine tethered via USB, I would imagine it's okay. I got decent, not great, photo prints out of it while wired, but that's not while I bought the thing. We're a laptop house and having either machine tethered to this brick defeats the purpose.
I have owned 2 HP printers, both of which were useless in less than a year. Fool me once, HP. Now I'm done with Lexmark, too. Who's next in the 2010-2011 season? I'm looking at you, Epson. Skip it.Get more detail about Lexmark X4650 Wireless All-In-One Printer (2057321).
