Easier set up on Mac than on Windows.
The fact that there are no printed instructions complicates installation. This requires finding the appropriate parts of the manual on the CD and printing them. If you haven't printed enough material or the correct material, you have to stop the installation process and go back to the CD.
It took about 45 minutes to get the scanner working with Windows.
The CD is an old fashioned Windows only type. It's amazing that Pentax does not know how to make a CD readable by both Windows and Macs (others do). Pentax has a Mac driver on their website which installed easily.
It took about 7 minutes to get the scanner working on the Mac OS.
I purchased this scanner to take on the road. It appears well suited for that as it is small and light. The scan quality is good for the price, but not as good as what you would get with a flat bed scanner.
The lack of software (except for the TWAIN driver) is not a problem for Mac users because most Mac applications, including Preview, Image Capture, and Word all have the ability to control a scanner.
