This model of the presenter with laser pointer is a good improvement over the previous one. I have used both models; this one for over two years now. They are reliable and responsive.
This model uses a AAA battery, making replacement faster, easier, and far cheaper. But more importantly, this battery lasts a LOT longer than the coin battery of the previous model. I have only had to replace the AAA battery once in two years of regular use!
The RF transmitter is powerful enough to work from 20 or 30 feet away from the computer...though at the longer distances it might take an extra keypress to get a response at times. So I might have shaved off a half-star from this rating if that were possible. Indeed this presenter could use a bit more transmission power, and there is room in the case to move to a 9V battery (if that were needed to achieve it). Of course I don't know if the FCC would allow that!
In any case, it works beautifully with Mac and PC laptops, useable without installing drivers. So it is easy to use and extremely reliable. I really appreciate that the receiver stores into the transmitter between uses so that this small part is not lost, and putting it into the compartment cuts off the battery to extend its life.
This unit fits comfortably in the hand and works really well with PowerPoint (all versions). Other members of our department have the Targus unit and it does NOT work on Mac laptops. The Kensington unit is truly cross-platform compatible! Very nicely done! Inexpensive. Highly recommended.Get more detail about Kensington 33374 Wireless Presenter with Laser Pointer.
