The labeler works fine and a big benefit is it uses the cheap(er) M tapes. The problem is that batteries need to be at max (by alkaline standards) and, when the alkalines degrade even the slightest amount, the labeler believes the voltage is too low and the unit shuts down. The solution is to use lithium batteries which are 1.7v at full charge instead of alkaline (which are about 1.5v at full charge). Unit works fine with lithium batteries.
Not sure why Brother went to 4 cells on the PT-80, when 6 cells were used in the PT-65. The PT-65 has no problem with using alkaline batteries, even with heavy use.Get more detail about Brother PT-80 P-touch Electronic Labeling System.
