As a graphic artist and archivist, I've been looking for an 11x17 scanner for quite some time. A few comic book artist friends turned me on to the Mustek 1200, and when I found it for only $150 on Amazon, I was pretty shocked. That seemed like a ridiculously low price for a color, flatbed, A3 scanner. But I couldn't pass it up.
The scanner set-up on my iMac was easy as could be, the installation disc not only installing drivers for the scanner but also the Photoshop acquire plugin. I was up and running in minutes.
After about a month of use, I can say this: It's not the fastest or highest-quality scanner on the market, but the Mustek is a workhorse. If you're mostly working with line art or documents, you'll be pleased. If your needs include super-sharp photo scanning, the Mustek may not be for you. Wide format scanners are known for the quality of their output. There are many wide format scanners and printers available in the market nowadays. But you will have to consider what your needs are before buying a wide format scanner or printer.
